Something for National Poetry Day – The Hockey Rink

The Hockey Rink by Simon Webster-Wise

Redline, Blueline.
Whitefaced it sits.
Not knowing the battleground that it will soon become.
Here lies the hockey rink.
A place of glory.
A place of agony.
Still now, soon to be cut to shreds by skate blade, puck and stick.
Only the soothing touch of the Zamboni will calm these frozen waters.
Agony and glory, all played out under the glare of a million floodlights.

Redline, blueline – here lies the hockey rink.
